The Key to Toning Your Abs

Building your abs is one thing.? I’d like to talk a bit about toning your abs before I move onto the next set of exercises.

Hopefully, you’ve figured it out by now:? all the crunches in the world will do you no good if you keep eating fast food and drink sodas  for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.? Let’s consider the model of your average retired wide receiver:? when he was younger, chances are very good that he was a good 190 pounds of solid muscle.? Most of this happened, of course, because he was working out five days per week and had a very strict diet.? His abs were toned because he worked himself so hard for so much of the time that he was awake that, naturally, he had the type of body that people like you and I spent our entire lives being jealous of.? He didn’t have to worry about toning his abs then because it was part of his daily routine.

Now let’s fast-forward to five years after his retirement:? This same wide receiver is now fat, slow, and a little grumpy.? Let’s ignore for the moment that he’s not making the money he was five years ago, doesn’t have beautiful women throwing themselves at him anymore and is no longer being driven around Miami in a limo.?

His abs don’t have the tone they had before.? Now I guaranteed you that you’ll probably break a few knuckles if you try to punch him in the stomach.? So why is it that you can’t see the ripples of his ab muscles?

There are many web sites and articles out there that promise to reveal how to shed fat from your love handles. Sadly most of it’s just fluff & rubbish. Designed to sell you some crap diet or some pills.

The usual suspect in the exercise for love handles category is the good old side bend. You hold a walking stick or broom above your head and bend from side to side. Simple! You can do side bends all you like but they won’t work.

The fact they won’t work is that targeting one particular area to lose weight from is nigh on impossible. You’ll always get the smart ass telling you they do work. They will work if you incorporate them with an all round system.

If you do side bends as part of a thorough workout then they will work. If your workout is also part of an all round system you could double your results. It’s a simple fact. Burn more energy than you consume to lose weight.

To consume energy simply means to eat food. Burning energy means using it internally like a fuel, usually done by exercise. You can burn energy off (exercise) with any form of activity.

Could be any of these…walking, sex, swimming, jogging or even err … sex again! Any form of exercise is better than no form of exercise. The reason a lot of us are overweight is we eat food that is stuffed with calories. Then we fail to burn those calories off.

You can do love handle exercises for ever and a day but ignore other areas and you will end up back at square one. If you hate the sound of exercise consider swimming. I go swimming a lot and it’s a great all round workout and it isn’t taxing on your joints. If you are near a pool, then use it as the benefits can be huge.

I personally turn my nose up at jogging. I see no point in spending hours in pain and shortening the life of your knees. You know the guy who made jogging famous collapsed and died while out jogging? He was discovered by 2 smokers walking past. Irony eh?
